It is all excitement when you receive your call up letter. Before the camping date, preparation is started, but the major problem is - ''what will I be carrying with me to the camp?" Most students get stranded in the camp because of poor preparation. Below are the materials that you will need in NYSC Camp.
(1) Call up letter.
This is very important, as it is the prove that you are participating in the program. It is advisable not to laminate it.
(2) Registration document.
Do not forget to park the registration documents.
(3) Final year student identity card.
Yes! You should not forget it.
(4) photocopies of your documents.
You need to make about 6-10 copies of your documents. This will save you some cash, because photocopying cost more in the camp.
(5) Certificate /License.
This is applicable to the doctors, nurses and other specialised professions.
(6) White round neck T-shirt. Athough you will be given about 2, but you need need more, because this is the only wear allowed on the camp. So try and get like 5 pairs or more.
(7) White Shorts.
Just like the T-shirt, you need to get about 4-5 pairs of white shorts. This is because they easily get dirty during the various parades and assignments. It is better to buy them at home because at the popular Mami market, it is more expensive.
(8) White Sneakers /Rubber Sneakers.
The rubber Sneakers is better in the rainy season, since it can easily be cleaned compared to the leather. Most often the Sneakers given by NYSC might not fit you well and causes discomfort during parade. So get quality well fitting Sneakers and you will not regret you did.
(9) White socks.
You will need to get about 3 pairs to support the ones you will be given at camp.
(10) Stationaries.
Biros, jotters, staple and pin among others is important to go with.
(11) Beverage.
This will help your diet. With them you can boast of breakfast of your own without spending much. Most of the tea served is not rich but watery, you can make it tasteful with your beverage.
(12) Mosquito treated Net.
Some students fall victims of malaria due to mosquito bite. Some camp hostels are very poor, with no mosquito nettings. So please get a good mosquito treated net with you.
(13) Bed sheets, pillow Cases.
Note, you will only be given a bed and pillow with no covering. So you need to go with the bed sheets and pillow case.
(14) A padlock.
I know you will not like to be victim of theft. Then your bags should be firmly locked.
(15) Disinfectant.
The bathe water may not be of good quality some times, therefore having dettol is good.
(16) Plate, bowl, cup, spoon,and flask.
You know ''man must wack" A good flask to keep food warm
is necessary.
(17) Rechargeable light/flash light.
You are not guaranteed 24hrs power at camp. Even at campus, how many hours of power do you have? So you will spend most nights in darkness, hence the need for secondary light source.
(18) Extra phone battery/ Network Simcard.
It is not good to be with a dead phone battery or out of network. With another battery, you can easily keep one charging at Mami, while one is in use. Also, you need to find out the network providers in your camp area, so that you won't be off network.
(19) Some Cash.
Depending on your budget, you will need at least #10000
This will cater for some expenses at camp such as food, laundry, drugs, photographs, refreshments etc. Since movement outside the camp is restricted, this will save you from being stranded. You should also go with your ATM since some shops may have POS but there will be no ATM machine.
