Examination malpractice has evolved into many patterns. As examination bodies struggle to abate one method, the students device new ones. Instead of applying their intellect to meaningful academic work, some students engage it on devising new strategies for examination malpractice. Below are the various way students cheat in exams.
(1) Writing solutions on their desk.
Some students deface their desks with solutions to suspected examination questions. This occurs when students are assigned to personal desk.
(2) Carrying written solutions within clothes.
These solutions are called names like ''bullet or chukuli". While at the examination hall and when the coast is clear, the bullet is brought out for action. Then you can see the student copying with eyes gazing widely to avoid being caught.
(3) Hiding written solution in the hair.
This is done by ladies with their long hair or attachments. While pretending to scratch their head, the bullet is brought down.
(4) Hiding books in the toilet.
These set of students, after Haven read the questions, will take permission to visit the toilet, only to go and read up the solution. Some might even pretend to be having diarrhea in other to be granted more of such permissions.
(5) Writing on Class wall or ceiling fan.
The wall of most class room wear ugly look due to the various written solutions. Some are coded in strange language and slangs which only the student can understand. In some schools, the power supply is poor, hence the fans are almost non-functional and are turned into instrument of examination malpractice. Like some body '' ''expecting manner to fall from heaven", the student will be gazing up copying from the fan. This strategy is defeated when there is power and the fan is turned on.
(6)writing on body parts.
Some are good in this, they write on their palms, finger nails and laps. Yesoo, they have turned their body to answer sheet.
(7) Writing on handkerchief.
Some students copy examination solutions on white handkerchief. They craftly fold it and only open it when the examiner is not watching.
(8) Writing on footwear.
They copy valuable information on the inner surface of their footwear and cover it with their feet. When the bullet is needed, the leg is withdrawn from the footwear. What a strategy!
(9) Use of calculator, wristwatch and special lens.
These devices have been abused and used to store formula and solutions. This is why most times, they are not allowed into the examination hall. It was also reported in China that there is a special lens being used for examination malpractice.
(10) Use of phone.
They use the phone to snap and record pages of their note books and textbooks. With hi-tech phones available these days, copying and storage of expo materials is made easier. The phone is also used to receive solution from persons outside the examination hall.
(11) Use of mercenary.
This person is also called impersonator and they provide solution to the student. They are assumed to have an higher knowledge than the student. Most times they are payed for this service. The mercenary can either be outside the examination hall or inside. To gain access into the hall, the student may purchase two forms, one for him/her and the other for the mercenary. This is common with Senior school certificate examination and Jamb. It is funny that most times the examiner is turned into a mercenary. This happens when they compromise by collecting money from students. This is the case of the '' watchman becoming the thief"
(12) Copying from others.
Some have developed long neck by stretching it to copy from others. When you are in the examination hall and you hear things like ''remove your hands", ''open it now",''I am not seeing it well" know that copying is taking place.
(13) Paying lecturers.
Students can buy mark from dishonest lecturers. This can be done in cash or kind.
These practices have not helped our educational development. Students should channel their energy to study and success
will be achieved.
