Prostitution is the indulging in sexual activities for financial or other gains. This topic may look Strange as some may ask ''why the higher institutions?" But the truth is that this immoral act is thriving in our higher institutions.
It is becoming common for female students to have many sex partners. Their customers are mainly rich society men who can part with big cash for intimacy. The freedom which the school environment offers is abused by these girls who indulge in this shameful act.
To some it the search for the solution to their financial predicament while to others it is the quest to live big - acquiring the latest expensive fashionable item in town. Despite the reason, this act cannot be justified.
This affects the academic performance of those involved, It presents a high level of distraction and most times the academic pursuit is truncated, or poor grade is acquired.
The dangers of prostitution which include but not limited to : transmission of deadly disease such as HIV, unwanted pregnancy and victims of ritual killers, bedevil those involved. Yes! they are easy prey for ritual killers, who come pretending to be customers but only end up abducting their victims for rituals.
It is disheartening for parents to hear that their child has diverted attention from academic work to prostitution. What a pity!
This trend cannot be allowed to continue unstopped. The Parents can do more in the area of home training. Charity, it is said starts from home. Students with poor moral training are easily lured into this. Parents should give their children good moral training and this will equip them to resist such temptation while at school.
More so, it is important to cater for the needs of the students while they are in school, so that they can resist men, when they come promising of catering for them in exchange for intimacy. Although the economy is hard, but the basic needs should be met. Family planning should be encouraged, so that parents will give birth to the number of children they can take care of.
The student can be given some surprise visit, this can reveal some of their activities in campus. Parents should try to know about the affairs of their children in school, inquiries from their friends and course mates can be useful. This can be help in discovering some bad developing bad traits and checking them.
The school authorities should restrict the access to the female hostel to those with proven genuine purpose. Our precious female students, our future wives and the mother of our unborn children must be protected from this deadly monster - prostitution.
