Preparing for life after school

The life of a student enters another phase after graduation. The shool life is entirely different from life after school. While at school the students depends on their parents for sustainance , they are limited and controlled by the laws and regulations of the school and their parents . This takes a new turn after graduation, when the students are left to fend for themselves, take decisions and plan for their lives. This is challenging to many. However


then can the students prepare for this phase of life.

(1) Planning
Yes! Planning is very important. It is said that he who fails to plan, plans to fail. So there is no neutral point. This must comprise of both short and long term. The plan must be written down and must be  SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely). Items to be planned for  includes career path, saving style, investment, size of family lifestyle among others.

(2) Early preparation
The preparation should start early before graduation. The task of getting a job early after graduation is an enormous one. This is worsened by the high rate of unemployment and dwindling national national economy. Therefore preparation for the Labour market should start prior to graduation. They should learn how to write a good CV and to solve aptitude test questions which are  prerequisite to job placement. Also, they should learn how to present themselves for an interview and the right approach to interview questions. 

(3) Start Job application early
  The application for jobs should be started prior to graduation or during the NYSC, for those that are not exempted. This will  offer time to access more job opportunities. While at the NYSC, they should build a network of fellow serious minded Corp members and share information on job openings and career opportunities. Team spirit and leadership qualities should be developed because they are important in career growth.

(4) Career development
It is a vital aspect of this preparation. They should acquire  professional certifications relevant to their career path. examples of professional course are NEBOSH, ICAN,CIA, CCC, CPS etc.
 
(4)Seek God's guidance
It is very important to seek the support and favour of God, this enhances success in life. Graduates must approach this phase of life with boldness and optism not fear or pessimism.
