How to cope with joblessness after graduation

The expectation of many students is to be gainfully employed immediately after graduation. This dream is not meant in most cases these days. This waiting period can run into many years, and can be very challenging and frustrating. This is worsened by the economic downturn. Our nation has witnessed an unimaginable level of unemployment rate . This frustration has led some to crime and even a few suicide cases.
How then can a graduate cope during this long period of job search? Below are some remedy to this challenging situation.

(1) Take up the available low paying job. Although the desired job has not come, there are some available low paying job from where you can generate money for your upkeep. The idle mind is a devil's workshop, so staying idle is not an option.
  (2) Volunteer to work for free.
Presently, work experience is a vital requirement for recruitment. Therefore relevant work experience can be acquired by volunteering to work for free.   Some even end up being employed by the same firm.

(3) Start up a small scale business. Money can be saved during the NYSC from the monthly allawee or fund can be raised from family members and friends to start up a small scale business. The profits will help in meeting your needs instead of solely depending on others. Also, it develops your entrepreneurial skills and in some cases, the graduate can become self employed and an employer of Labour. It is true that most entrepreneurs started on a small scale. So you should not forget the days of little beginning.

(4) Enrol for professional courses. This period can be used to acquire professional training and certification. This will brighten ones chances of getting a job.

(5) Enrol for further education. Many people have testified that they got their dream job immediately after their MSc. Therefore if the job is not forth coming after your first degree, why not go for MSc. The time is better put into good use because time waits for no man.
It is our desire and prayer that the economy of our dear country will improve and this dilemma being faced by our graduates will be eradicated.
