Examination malpractice in higher institutions

Examination malpractice is any act, during or after an examination which contavenes the rules and regulations of the examination. This is usually done with an intent to gain an undue advantage over others. Examination malpractice has developed from the familiar method of carrying hid written solution into the examination hall, to the use of technology such as phone camera and recordings and even special lens as discovered in China lately. The use of materials prohibited in the examination hall such as calculator, textbook, notebook, phone, camera etc as the case may be, constitutes an act of examination malpractice. Also copying other's work or sharing solutions about the examination question among yourselves is not allowed during examinations.
This practice sometimes take place even after the examination, where some students induce lecturers by cash or kind, to award unmerited marks to them. All these has gone a long way to defeat the purpose of the examination which is to access students performance and reward hard work. Hence most graduate  parade with certificate which does not represent their
true capacity and worth. Therefore employers has resulted to series of tests and interviews before employment, not minding the grade of the student.
The menace of examination malpractice is enormous! It has caused the graduation of quacks and poorly trained graduates.  Haven seen this as an easy way to pass, some students often abandon handwork - no more night reading or ''awoko" and they turn to partying and so called flexing. This discourages the hardworking students, when they see the lazy ones make good grade with no effort.
The effect of examination malpractice is felt by the society, it has resulted to the failure of Institutions due to poor managers and poor trained workforce. Yes! It has dealt a blow to the standard of education globally.
It is high time, this monster is killed in our tertiary institutions. The school must kill examination malpractice before it kills them.
First, the school should have a strong hatred for it and a well communicated disciplinary action against any one involved in it. This will serve as deterrent to others. This law must apply to all, without fear or favour.
Consequently, hardwork must be encouraged, by rewarding hard working students .This will prompt others to follow suit. It must be made clear that there is no short cut to success than hardwork.
More so, the lecturers' tutorage must measure up to expectation. They should not set unrealistic target for the students, the students must be taught to the extent that they will stop seeing examination as a warfare but as an Avenue to demonstrate what they are taught.
The school authority should  supervise and monitor the activities and performance of the lecturers, in order to ensure that they teach well and are not encouraging examination. malpractice for personal gain.
Our society is in dire need of skilled and innovative Labour force who can drive our economy out of recession, and this can only be achieved through hardwork and dedication not laziness and examination malpractice.
