It is said that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. This is the truth of life in school. The ability to balance social and academic activities guarantees a sound student in all ramifications. Although the sole aim of going to school is to obtain academic qualifications, but the role of socialization in self development cannot be overemphasized. Involving in social activities such as departmental unions, religious bodies, students clubs, student Union government and others, are Avenue for developing good traits, leadership qualities, team spirit and public speaking ability.
On the other hand academic activities which includes lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorial, personal study etc, are very important because they determine the grade one gets. It is pertinent to note that none should be done while neglecting the other. The resultant effect of a poor balance between these two is responsible for graduation of students who are not fit for life outside school.
The students should not sacrifice time for academic activities for social life and vice versa.
A well written out plan for effective time management must be followed judiciously.
It is not uncommon to come across students with good results but cannot express themselves fluently or address a group of people without submitting to stage fright, this is due to an inbalance in training.
The school management should put this into consideration in designing the school curriculum and class timetable, Enough time must be given for social activities. They should aim at developing a sound and skilled Labour force.
